Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network, has surpassed Arbitrum in daily active addresses for the first time, recording 4.2 million unique addresses in a single day. The milestone caps a period of explosive growth fueled by consumer applications, social protocols, and deep integration with Coinbase's 100M+ user base.

Farcaster, the decentralized social protocol, has been a key driver — its Frames feature brings on-chain interactions directly into social feeds. Meme coin activity on Base has also surged, with automated market makers processing over $800 million in daily volume.

Base's average transaction fee sits at $0.001, enabled by Ethereum's expanded blob space post-Pectra. The network processes over 100 transactions per second, rivaling Solana's throughput at a fraction of the cost.

Jesse Pollak, Base's lead, noted that the network's strategy of "bringing the next billion users on-chain" is showing results: "We're seeing people interact with crypto for the first time without even knowing they're on a blockchain."
