The Bitcoin Lightning Network has reached a new milestone of 50,000 BTC in public channel capacity, reflecting growing adoption of Bitcoin as a payment rail. The figure has more than doubled in the past year, driven by integrations from Strike, Cash App, Coinbase, and a growing number of merchant payment processors.

Strike's expansion into 65 countries has been a major catalyst, enabling near-instant, low-cost remittances that compete directly with Western Union and traditional money transfer services. In El Salvador, Lightning transactions now account for over 30% of retail payments in tourist areas.

Cash App's Lightning integration has brought the technology to over 50 million users in the United States, while Coinbase's recent addition of Lightning sends and receives has made it accessible to its 100 million user base.

The network now processes an estimated 500,000 transactions per day, though exact figures are difficult to determine due to the protocol's privacy features. Average fees remain below one cent, making it competitive with any digital payment system globally.
