Gaming Giant Ubisoft Launches AAA Title with Full On-Chain Asset Ownership
Ubisoft has launched its first fully on-chain gaming experience, allowing players to truly own, trade, and transfer in-game assets across a blockchain-native ecosystem.
Ubisoft has launched "Champions of the Oasis," a AAA action-RPG with full on-chain asset ownership built on Immutable's zkEVM. Every weapon, armor piece, and cosmetic in the game is a tradeable NFT, and the game's economy runs on a custom token that players earn through gameplay.
Unlike previous blockchain gaming attempts, Ubisoft has hidden all crypto complexity behind its Ubisoft Connect account system. Players can trade items on an in-game marketplace without ever interacting with a wallet or paying gas fees — Immutable's Passport system handles everything behind the scenes.
Early reviews have been positive, with critics praising the gameplay while noting the seamless integration of blockchain elements. The game had 500,000 downloads in its first week across PC and mobile platforms.
The launch represents a significant shift in the gaming industry's approach to blockchain. Rather than bolting NFTs onto existing games, Ubisoft built the entire economy around verifiable ownership from day one. Competitors including Square Enix and Epic Games are reportedly accelerating their own blockchain gaming initiatives.
